Travel & Spas in South Carolina
If you're already mourning the approaching end of summer's days, consider setting your sights on perhaps a less traditional - or seemingly unglamourous - vacation spot where the air will be warmer a bit longer: South Carolina. The Wentworth Mansion in Charleston has complimentary bedtime casks of sherry, port and brandy and a spa, not to mention close proiximity to the just-completed longest cable-stay bridge in the U.S. For golf, as well as a spa and kid-friendly offerings, try the eight-month old The Inn at Palmetto Bluff, below, outside of Savannah and on a 20,000-acre nature preserve.

My wife and I stayed in the "Master Suite" at the Wentworth in July last year. July + Charleston = hot and humid. Prepare to drive from the Wentworth in the hot months, because it's several blocks from anything you'd go to Charleston to see, and you'll be soaked with perspiration by the time you get there.
I would also recommend not planning any, umm, noisy nocturnal activities there, because the hardwood floors and old doors have gaps that permit the transmission of sound from one side to the other. If you're in the master suite, the concierge/bellperson/clerk sits right outside your bedroom door, and could probably hear anything louder than a gentle conversation.
