Lux Stats

Do you wonder how your spending compares to that of others?  Luxury Report 2005, a survey of spending by 600 consumers representing the top 25 percent of wage earners (annual income $75,000+), from Unity Marketing says the following:

  • Generation Xers (ages 28-40) spent an average of $3,335 per person on luxury apparel in 2004, more than 20 percent above Baby Boomers' (ages 41-59) average, $2,773.  Gen Xers spent 9 percent more than Baby Boomers on luxury products overall.
  • The increase in luxury travel spending was greater than spending on luxury apparel, irrespective of age.
  • Boomers spent 9 percent more of their funds on experiential luxuries like dining, entertainment and travel than Xers did.
  • Average luxury spending by consumers was found to double with each of three steps up the income ladder ($75,000-99,999, $100,000-149,999 and $150,000+).
